CABB Certified Business Broker

Becoming a California Association of Business Brokers (CABB) Certified Business Broker (CBB) is the best thing you can do for your business broker career. A CBB will elevate you above other business brokers by making you better informed, better educated and prove that you are an experienced business broker. When co-brokering it will let others know you have the knowledge and experience to be a competent business broker.

Requirements for obtaining a CBB

  1. Membership in good standing with CABB.
  2. The applicant must remit the CBB Application and proof of compliance to CABB Headquarters.
  3. Each CBB candidate must pledge to uphold the Association's Code of Ethics.
  4. A candidate must successfully complete the following:
    1. Completion of the two day CABB California Business Broker Training Course 101 with a score on the test of 75 or better.
    2. Completion of the two day IBBA Analyzing and Recasting Financial Statements Course 210 with a score on the test of 75 or better or have a current IBBA CBI credential.
    3. Submit proof of listing and/or selling 5 business opportunities that have successfully closed (Example – copy of escrow instructions and closing report).
  5. Renewal will be every 4 years with the requirement for the first renewal of having taken CABB Course 501 Advanced Business Broker Training. Having an IBBA CBI never waives having to take CABB 501.

One of the benefits of having earned the CBB designation is the ability to differentiate yourself from your competition. To best accomplish this, use your designation with pride. It is appropriate to use the initials “CBB” following your name in promotional materials and when signing correspondence. Many CBBs will find that it is an effective strategy, when marketing their services, to stress the benefits a client may expect by insisting on dealing with certified professionals. CABB will also be giving priority to CBB brokers when buyers or sellers go to the CABB web site to inquire about brokers.

The Certified Business Broker designation does carry obligations. Your must remain a member in good standing of CABB, participate in the continuing education programs and be involved in your community of professionals by attending conferences.
